Alfreda Billings married Merari Mack Rockwell on June 12, 1872 in Cloud, Kansas at the home of her sister, Maria Stillson. From Rockwell's biography, we discover that:  "In 1870 Merari decided to take up new land and went to Kansas. On his way west, he had met a pretty girl in Saugatuck. He remembered her and when he got to Junction City, Kansas, he saw her again. She had gone west to keep house for her brother, James. Soon they got acquainted and in June 1872, he married Alfreda Billings of Michigan.  After six years of poor crops in Kansas, they returned to Barry County in Michigan."
