Maria Billings, the second child, married Samuel Elisha Stillson in 1858 at Allegan, Michigan. It was 3 years later when 27-year-old Samuel enlisted along with Maria’s younger brother, James, and a man named Freeland Gray (a family friend, perhaps). Samuel was wounded in action at Chickamauga, GA, two years later. It was another year and a half before he was discharged.
