1Adelbert J Sittser was born on November 6, 1837, in New York City, New York. He married Loretta Elvira Everson in 1870 and they had seven children.

 

1On October 2, 1861, Adelbert Sittser enlisted as a Private in Company E, Michigan 13th Infantry at Pipestone, Michigan. He was 24 years old. He was promoted to Full Corporal. He mustered out on November 2 1862 having served for one year, one month. He enlisted on November 3, 1962 as a Sergeant in Company A, 1st U.S. Cavalry and mustered out on November 3, 1965, serving 3 years.   

 

While with the 13th Inf. of Mich., Adelbert J. Sittser was wounded at Shiloh Creek, TN.  After the battle, at the muster of Louisville, Sittser was labeled a deserter while he was actually a patient at Benton Barracks, MO.  Later, Sittser was transferred to Detroit and was listed as a deserter at Benton Barracks Military Hospital.

 

While a patient at Detroit Barracks, Adelbert was recruited by the Custer Brothers near Detroit by direction of President Lincoln.  He was listed in Co. A, 1st U.S. Cavalry, Regular Army.

 

Adelbert J. Sittser was honorably discharged Nov. 3, 1865.

 

1He applied for a pension on October 6, 1883 for his service in the 13th Michigan Infantry and the 1st U.S. Cavalry. The pension was granted.

 

1On November 26, 1915, Adelbert died in Kalamazoo, MI at the age of 79. According to his death record, he was buried on November 28, 1915 at Kilbourn City, Wisconsin (now known as Wisconsin Dells). Unconfirmed.
