Ellen apparently died later in 1854 or 1855. On Mar. 6th, 1856, Amos married Laura E. Davis in Branch Co., Michigan. They had a son Adalask in 1856; sadly, he died before his 2nd birthday.  moved to Harper's Ferry, W. VA, Sep. 22, 1862, and served duty there till Oct. 29. They were on reconnaissance to Charlestown Oct. 16-17; advanced up Loudoun Valley and moved to Falmouth, VA, Oct. 29-Nov. 17; participated in the Battle of Fredericksburg, Dec. 12-15; on duty at Falmouth, VA, till Apr., 1863; the Chancellorsville Campaign Apr. 27-

Amos was discharged in June 1863, just before the Battle of Gettysburg; his former regiment, the 145th Pennsylvania, continued on through the Gettysburg Campaign, in pursuit of Lee, and right on through the Mine Run Campaign. Amos returned to Ashland, Newaygo, to his farm and his family. Little Sarah died the following summer, on Aug. 21st, 1864. Her sister Virginia died 6 days later, on Aug. 27th, 1864. Another daughter, Jennie E., was born about 1865. In 1870, Amos and Laura were still farming in Ashland and little Jennie was 4. Ten years later, Jennie was tallied at age 15 as a school-girl, enumerated with her parents on the 1880 census for Ashland. No further record has been found for her, and she was not mentioned in her father's obituary. Amos was granted a pension in Sep. 1884 for "rheumatism and asthma." He was counted in Ashland, Newaygo, on the 1890 Veterans Census, stating that he was discharged "---June 1863."

Amos and Laura continued to live and farm in Ashland through 1910. Amos died on Jun. 16, 1912. Laura then lived with her sister and brother-in-law in Ashland
