Clarady Barnett was born in 1812 in Kentucky.  In 1829, he married Malinda Pemberton in Henry County, Tennessee.  On the 1830 United States Census, he is living with his wife and a daughter.  William Barnett and John Barnett live in the same county.  Going by the ages on the census, it is possible that John is his father.  By the 1840 United States Census, he is living in Menard County, Illinois with two sons and three daughters.  By 1850, the family lived in Miller County, Missouri.  Clarady listed his occupation as a stone mason.  About 1860, they moved to Caldwell County, Missouri.  Clarady and Malinda Barnett had the following children that can be documented:  William born in 1834, John born in 1836, Martha born in 1842, James born in 1844, Sarah born in 1846, Newton born in 1848, and Mary born in 1854.  They had three daughters born before 1840, but I cannot find valid documentation of their names.  Malinda Barnett died sometime between 1860 and 1863.

Clarady served in the Black Hawk War in Illinois from 1831 to 1832 as a Private in Abraham Lincoln’s Company in the 4th Illinois Regiment.  On November 1, 1861, Clarady answered the call for service and enlisted as a Private in Co. E, 6th Missouri Cavalry at the age of 49.  On April 10, 1862, Clarady became ill and was on leave, but returned in July 1862.  He was discharged on November 27, 1862 by reason of disability.  The cause of his disability was not listed.  He applied for a pension on April 11, 1876 which was denied.  A second application on September 28, 1885 was approved.  His disabilities were “chronic diarrhea and white atrophy of the eyes”.

After Clarady’s return from the Civil War, he married Eliza J. Brummett on June 8, 1863 in Caldwell County, Missouri.  There is also a marriage to Jemima J. Campbell on April 17, 1879 in Dade County, Missouri.  On the Veteran’s Census in 1890, Clarady was living in Jackson, Camden County, Missouri.  Claridy passed away on January 13, 1892 at the age of 79.
