Charles W McCoy was born on February 14, 1830, in Fayette City, Pennsylvania to Henry C and Margaret (Stigler) McCoy.

 

He married Mary Maydeling Moore on April 4, 1854 in Belmont, Ohio. In the 1860 U.S. Federal Census, Charlie, Mary M., Frank and Charles H. McCoy were living in Richland, Belmont, Ohio. 

 

On September 16, 1864, John J. Johnson (alias Charles W. McCoy) enlisted in Company D, 124th New York Infantry at the age of 34. He mustered out on June 3, 1865. On April 12, 1878, Charles W. McCoy applied for and was granted a pension for his service in the Civil War. 

 

In the 1880 U.S. Federal Census, the McCoy family was living in Washington, Brown, Indiana. The family included Charles W, Mary M, Francis, Charles H, Mary E, Lucy and John A.  

 

Charles married Rosanna Ellen Stidd on April 3, 1893, in Belmont, Ohio. He died of Typhoid Fever on October 22, 1895, in Goshen, Ohio, at the age of 65. As his widow, Rosanna McCoy applied for a U.S. pension on May 29, 1896, but it was not granted.
