Christopher Columbus Bennett was born on April 17, 1836, in Yancey, North Carolina, to Eli Honeycutt Bennett and Mary Polly Johnson. 

 

At the age of 27, Christopher C. Bennett enlisted in Company B, 13th Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry on September 23, 1863 at Carter County, Tennessee. He was promoted to quartermaster sergeant on December 3, 1863 and mustered out at Knoxville, Tennessee on September 5, 1865.

 

He first married Cornelia Jane Smalling on June 4, 1866,  in Sullivan County, Tennessee. His second marriage was to Margaret Phillips on 5 Feb 1876, at Sullivan County, Tennessee. He then married Maria Eads on June 21, 1888, at Sullivan County, Tennessee. He had seven sons and three daughters. 

 

Christopher C. Bennett died on July 13, 1895, in Piney Flats, Tennessee, at the age of 59, and was buried there.
