My 2nd great-grandfather, Lucius Milton Strong (1803-1861) and Mary Ann (Marion) Culver (1807-1874) had ten children, two daughters and eight sons (six lived to adulthood). Four of the six served in the Civil War for Michigan.
* Hiram F Strong (1833-1911) my g-granduncle
* Henry F. Strong (1835-1925) my g-granduncle
* Howell Fillmore Strong (1840-1913) my g-granduncle
* Hayden E. Strong (1843-1909) my g-grandfather
My 2nd great-grandfather, Lucius, would have been proud but he died in 1861, so he never knew. The boys’ mother, Mary, lived to witness their service. My 4th great-grandfather, Nathaniel Strong, served in the Revolutionary War.
Henry F Strong was born April 11, 1835 in New York, to Lucious and Mary Ann (Culver) Strong. Henry married Margaret Oliver (1842-1882). He then married Alice F Worden on October 3, 1883, in Ionia, MI. 1At the age of 84, Alice Strong died at the Michigan soldiers’ home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She had lived most of her life in Greenville with her husband, Henry, who was a harness maker there for a number of years.
Henry died on October 17, 1925, in Greenville, Michigan, at the age of 90, and was buried in Berlin, Michigan.
