Henry Patton was born on October 5, 1842, in Trumbull, Ohio to John Hueston Patton and Eliza Jane Dixon. He married Sarah McJenry on June 1, 1869, in Williams, Ohio and they had three children during their marriage.

Henry enlisted in Company E, 151st Indiana Infantry on February 14, 1865 at the age of 22. He mustered out on September 19, 1865, at LaPorte, Indiana.

Henry Patton died on July 11, 1878, in Lake, Indiana, at the age of 35, and was buried in Crown Point, Indiana.
